Brooks Westward X-Country League Report (6th November 2011)
The second Westward League of the season was at Newquay, a new course
incorporating the Cornwall Championships. It was a bright sunny day with
a brisk northerly wind making the going tough.
We had a good turn out with new athletes Liam Edwards (U13B) and the
Simson family - Paula (ladies), Jade (U15G) and Clint (senior men).
Once again, we had eight Plymouth University students augmenting our
senior teams’ points totals.
There was a superb individual performance from David Weir, who at the
age of 15 won the U17M race, beating all the ladies in the process.
Jim Blackford again won the U15 Boys. Both David and Jim are leading
their respective age categories. Emily Ackford and Victoria Weir came 2nd
and 3rd in the U15 Girls, reversing their results from
Redruth and Simon Anderson was once again first MV45 home with an
impressive overall 11th out of 132. A special mention must go
to Ashley Smith who completed the Plymouth 10k in the morning and then
produced a good run in the senior men’s 9.560 K race in the afternoon.
The next Westward League at Exeter on Sunday December 4th
incorporates the Devon County Championships and anyone wanting to take
part in this competition should get their entries in by the 25th

Brooks Westward X-Country League Report (October 2011)

stalwarts being complimented by new athletes: Jodie Allen (SW), Harriet
Brocklehurst (U13g), Callum Edwards (U15b), Jim Weir (VM), Tim Beattie

There were some excellent performances:
Jim Blackford held off Newquay and Par (&England) athlete Danny Old
to win the U15 boys. Victoria Weir and Emily Ackford came second and
third respectively in the U15 girls’ race. We would have a good chance
of winning the U15 girls’ team event if we had one more girl running.
David Weir came second in the U17 men’s race, Tom Blackford was second
in the U13 boys and Simon Anderson was first VM45 to finish coming 14th
